Congratulations and thankyou to Alison Bowker, this years recipient of the Tony Hickson award. This is the award for people who have served the league outstandingly in the past. The league would be nothing without its clubs, and people like Alison are the lifeblood of clubs and the major interface to the league.
Alison has been a faithful Welsh Row member since its inception around 1979/80. She was indeed a founder member (along with husband Les) and has been Secretary and/or Treasurer ever since. That is remarkable service.
She has also been and still is a very fine player. She started out aged 12 at Nantwich congregational church - a time when churches and church halls were regular features in the league. She had involvement with LMR and Ruskin but Welsh Row has been her main focus for the time ever since. Alison is a valued member of the Masters age group set up in Cheshire representing the county in recent years.
All in all, Alison is the heartbeat of local Badminton and her award is richly deserved. Photo attached from the fixtures meeting held on Tuesday 8th July with Alison being presented with the trophy by President Dave Sumner.
